This hapless moped rider helped his friends dodge a bus lane fine by lifting their bikes over a barrier - before they abandoned him.

The lads were avoiding traffic jams by riding in the bus lane in Jakarta, Indonesia, on August 10, when they noticed a police checkpoint ahead.

Each of the four friends faced a 500,000IDR (27GBP) fine. Instead they helped each other hurl their heavy scooters over a concrete barrier to get into the correct lane.

The last of the group - who had loyally done the hard work by lifting his each of his friend' bikes for them to escape - was left stranded when they all scooted away and abandoned him.

Footage shows him trying desperately to lift his white and red moped over the barrier, only to give up because it was too heavy.

He was left to carry on in the bus lane and apologise to police, who can be seen some 50 metres away, before they fined him for the traffic offence.

Onlooker Takdare Nugroho said: ''This was the entertainment during the morning commute.

''The funny thing was at the end, when the man who had done all the hard work was left over to get in trouble. It's a bit like politics at the moment.

''I just thought the scene was quite funny. They were trying to avoid getting in trouble.''
