Pupils at a school in Vietnam were trapped in their classrooms after a flash flood hit their village.

Footage captured on Wednesday (August 28) in Son La province shows the rapid floodwaters gushing through the middle school after days of continuous heavy rain.

Pupils run through the corridors and rush upstairs to avoid the water, which can be seen washing away bicycles and motorbikes.

The pupils were stuck for more than an hour before the water level receded.

Son La has suffered from bouts of flooding over the summer as tropical storms batter Vietnam.

According to the teacher,The incident occurred at a junior high school in northwest Vietnam. The flash flood happen suddenly in the afternoon when teachers and students are in the classroom. They hear loud noises at the back of the mountain.A few minutes later the water came up. The teachers and students quickly moved to the second floor of the school. The floodwaters rose rapidly and swept away everything around the school. Motorcycles and bicycles are submerged in floodwaters. Tables and chairs in the classroom are washed away. Fortunately, no one was injured in the flash flood. After more than 1 hour of water started to withdraw. This area has had heavy rains many days ago. At present, the rain continues to cause many people fear the flash flood will return.
