Teenager knocked over by motorcycle while walking on zebra crossing
This is the moment a teenager was knocked over after being waved across a pedestrian crossing - into the path of a motorcycle.
Rosemarie Madanlo, 18, was guided over the white lines by a traffic policeman outside the school during morning rush hour in Davao City, Philippines last Friday (21/09) at 7:40am.
She's holding an umbrella to block the sun, and believing that she has the right of way and no vehicles are coming she pulls it down to cover her eyes from the glare.
But the umbrella appears to obscure her view, and she doesn't notice the oncoming bike.
Moments later the motorcyclist Mark Alvez smashes into her, sending her skidding across the tarmac. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with head injuries but is now stable.
Police said that Alvez visited Rosemarie in hospital and asked for forgiveness but her family demanded that the man be prosecuted.
Officers have now charged him with ''reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries''.
Police commander Paulino Zaulda from the Tugbok district station said: ''I must remind drivers that pedestrians have the right of way as they go over the pedestrian crossing. In this case we have charged the rider over the accident.''
