Eurasian Wren Troglodytes troglodytes male displaying territorial behaviour in a London park

A very approachable Eurasian Wren Troglodytes troglodytes is illustrated defining the boundaries of his territory in a London park by singing at other males. A burst of song will be followed by a period of silence whilst the bird listens to the response of his rival. As is so often the case when filming in urban areas there is inevitable interference from background noise - but on this occasion it consists mainly of the songs and calls of other birds. London is after all almost 50% green. This appears to be the same male Wren that I first filmed at this location in 2013 as his behaviour is identical so he must be more than five years old, probably a really good age for such a small bird (the highest recorded age for these birds is said to be six years and eight months in the wild but gathering accurate data must be extraordinarily difficult). In fact the original wooden bridge has been recently replaced (by a plastic equivalent with simulated wood grain!) so it is younger than he is. In another of David's films two male Eurasian Wrens may be seen fighting at: https://youtu.be/k9m9GHwPDZw
