A camel, which fell down an open drain, was rescued, albeit in a tacky way, by a team in Pakistan. The operation, which took place in Punjab province's Bahawalpur, was captured on camera.
According to the video, the large mammal is seen writhing in pain as rescuers try to lift it up from the drain. The mammal was chained and brought up using a crane.
At first, as people approached to help the animal, some were repelled as it threw some kicks. A camel’s hooves are very strong and may fracture bones if it manages to make contact.
However, upon insistence from others, some people mustered the courage and the camel was taken out from the pit.
The video set social media abuzz, with netizens sympathising with the helpless animal. They were also quick to condemn the tackiness of the crane driver, who, with his rather callous handling of the controls, prolonged the camel’s agonising rescue.
“They don’t even know how to operate a crane,” Facebook user and Karachi resident Babar Khan commented.
While another user, Voica Voichita, questioned the intention of the rescuers.
It is not yet known how the camel found itself in the drain.
