The amusing scene was captured in the city of Oaxaca in southern Mexico during the traditional Las Calendas festival on February 8.

Footage shows a woman in a traditional dress holding a basket with lit fireworks on top of her head as the dog, named Mazapan, spins around in front of her and barks as the fireworks go off.

The dog has become an internet sensation since the footage emerged on social media.

An online petition has been launched to have the pooch officially recognised as the cultural image of Oaxaca and also to ''make people aware of respect, care and animal protection in the state of Oaxaca''.

In the video, a woman in traditional “chinas oaxaquenas” dress can be seen stood in the middle of a crowd with onlooker spinning as she holds a basket with lit fireworks inside on top of her head - the highlight of her show.

However, Mazapan has now become the star after footage of the incident has been viewed online tens of millions of times.

In the video, the dog is not scared of the fireworks and seems to imitate the dancer, spinning around in circles as it runs around her. The dog continues sprinting around in circles and barking as the fireworks go off above the woman’s head.
