Action! The ‘Flying Ice Cream’ vendor of Thailand

This is a dramatic video of Alexander, a unique ice cream vendor from Nakon Pathom, Thailand.

Alexander owns the ‘Flying Ice Cream’ stall that opens for business every evening at the food court of the night market, in the parking lot of the famous Phra Pahtom Chedi, the tallest Buddhist Stupa in Thailand.

He is immensely popular for his skill of tossing up scoops of ice cream above his head and ensuring their safe landing into ice cream cups. And he comes across like a cross between a martial artist and a comedy actor as he puts on this show for his adoring audience.

Repeatedly using his catchword ‘Action!’ Alexander throws up the scooped ice cream high up in the air, sometimes, as much as 25 to 30 feet, and then deftly moves his hands and body, to ensure that it lands safely in the cup held in other hand.

Tattooed, with a genial smile most of the time, he mixes up his act with casual talking with his customers, including the kids, playing his harmonica and practicing shadow karate moves, à la Bruce Lee, only with ice cream scoops instead of nunchucks in his hands.

Noppakao Sankew, long-term resident of Nakon Pathom said “I’ve been coming to this food court for the last 14 years, and he has always been here...he is very popular among locals as well as tourists, especially the kids. The ice cream here is amazing too.”

Alexander’s son manages the business end of the enterprise, serving more than 10 flavors to their customers.
