City tap water has been spotted stinky and green in households for about 10 days in northern China, affecting at least 200,000 residents.

In video of the phenomenon, shot in Anlu, Hubei Province on April 25, many residents recorded the water flowing from their faucets coming out as foul-smelling and green in colour.

The local environment department said this was was caused by a bloom at the local reservoir following a period of poor water flow.

The local government immediately initiated an emergency response and transferred 10 million cubic metres of water from the surrounding area. Despite this the tap water is still unclean as of time of reporting.
