Thai locals believe bridge where more than 100 people died is 'haunted'
This terrifying bridge isn't for timid drivers - it's 165ft tall, bends through mountains and locals say it is haunted.
The huge concrete structure is even angled so that cars on the inside lane are lower than those going round the bend and leaning towards a deadly drop.
The bridge has suffered a series of deadly accidents since the Huay Tong bridge opened in Phetchabhun, northern Thailand, in 1975, with more than 100 fatalities.
The highest number of deaths were in December 2013, when a bus travelling from Khon Kaen to Chiang Rai lost its balance at the steep downhill turn and fell 50 metres off the bridge.
Twenty-nine out of the 33 people onboard, including the bus drivers, were dead while the other four were seriously injured.
After the notorious accident, locals began to believe the bridge was haunted and some claim to have seen ghosts while others suggest that the bridge is cursed.
Locals believe the ghosts of the people who died in the bus crash haunt the bridge and have put a curse on it - making every journey along its winding curve potentially deadly.
One motorist, Pattanasak Tipparak, claimed that he photographed a ghost standing under the bridge while he and his family were on the road trip.
They stopped to take pictures of the daunting bridge and one image appears to show a mysterious shadow standing by the bridge pillar, where the deadly crash occurred.
He said: “I know that the bridge is haunted but I didn’t expect to see the ghost in the day time like this. It could’ve been the wandering spirit from that big accident.”
