This is the shocking moment a train crashed into a bus leaving 10 dead and dozens injured in central Mexico.

Footage shows the freight train tearing the double-decker bus in half after it attempted to pass in front on September 8.

Authorities said the collision in the Atlacomulco municipality killed seven women and three men, and wounded at least 61 people.

In a statement, railway Canadian Pacific Kansas City de Mexico said: 'CPKC de Mexico mourns the deaths and expresses its deepest condolences to the families. It is also already on the scene of the accident, collaborating with the relevant authorities, and will provide all necessary information for the corresponding expert report.

'CPKC de Mexico urges the public, drivers, and conductors to respect the signs and comply with the stop order at railroad crossings to avoid these unfortunate situations.'

Bus operator Herradura de Plata has not commented on the accident.
