Songkhla zoo organised the tasty feast for their turtles to celebrate the World Turtle Day in Songkhla, southern Thailand on May 23.

Zoo visitors participated in the special show with seven turtles having their favourite fruits, including apples, bell peppers, watermelons, cactus flowers, butterfly peas, pumpkins, and grapes.

Chalermwut Kasemsomboon, the director of Songkhla zoo, said that the feast occurred on the World Turtle Day which takes place on May 23 every year. It was aimed to help raise awareness about land turtles and sea turtles.

He said: “Most of the turtles here were rescued after being injured from fishing boats, having their natural habitat slowly destroyed. It’s sad to see that the numbers of turtles in Thailand are decreasing every year.

“The fruit buffet isn’t only for visitors to see how adorable the turtles are, but we want people to be more concerned about them. We hope that we would see them more on the natural habitat, not the zoo.”
