India is set to complete building the world's highest rail bridge measuring at 349-metres tall connecting the remote state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The bridge built over the Chenab river in Reasi district interlinking the town of Katra and Banihal.

Visuals show the massive arch-shaped structure of the bridge which is under construction.

According to the reports, over 5,462 tonnes of steel has been used to build the 359 meters high bridge over river-bed.

The officials have informed that the overpass is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 161.56 miles per hour.

Reports also say that the deadline for the completion of the railway network is slated for December 2021.

India will then surpass the current highest record of China's Shuibai railway bridge, which is of 275 metres.

The 0.817 miles long bridge plays a crucial link in the 68.97 miles stretch between Katra and Banihal, which is part of the Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project.

The railway link project is an ambitious and highly anticipated of the Prime Minister Modi-led central government after scrapping of Article 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution.
