Baby sees mom clearly for the first time after getting glasses
Touching footage of a US baby boy seeing clearly for the first time with his new glasses.
The video, filmed at home in Maine in July 2019, shows the moment mom Nicole gently places a new pair of glasses on seven-month-old Landry, who has a genetic condition called Bests Disease affecting his vision.
In the video, after getting accustomed to his new spectacles, he smiles at his mom.
Before filming the video, the family had noticed over a change in Landry. "Over the last few weeks we noticed a change in Landry's vision. We took him to a brilliant pediatric ophthalmologist in Portland, who then referred us to a pediatric retinal specialist in Boston. We know Landry is incredibly farsighted, and has basically known us by voice; he has an irregularity on his retina which has led to further testing in the operating room as well as genetic testing, which we are still awaiting the results of; and MOST IMPORTANTLY he is the cutest little boy we have EVER seen in bright blue glasses.
"His reaction to finally seeing my face and face timing dad in Alaska is too amazing not to share.
"I think the look on Landry’s face when we first put his glasses on proves what a gift our sight really is."
Landry's older brother also has the same condition. In a moving Instagram post from January 21, Nicole wrote: "It’s very hard to accept as a mom and a health care provider, there is no cure, no medicine we can give them to make it all better, and this will progress. We can just be thankful we have found some amazing friends and doctors, and have the family we have, to help make this journey more 'doable' and give our boys the best life possible."
Best disease is a genetic condition you are born with, although it does not usually start to affect your vision until later in life. Best disease affects the part of your retina at the back of your eye which you use when reading, writing or watching TV.
