Thousands of people marched through the streets of Ravensmead, Cape Town on Sunday to demand justice for 8-year-old Tazne van Wyk, who was found dead in Worcester last week.

The church brigade troop to which murdered Tazne Van Wyk belonged to marched from the Avonwood shopping centre to her home carrying placards with her face on.

The march was led by Cape Town Executive Mayor Dan Plato, pastors and community leaders. ANC MPL Faiez Jacobs also joined the march which numbered in the hundreds.

Another few hundred people gathered outside the home of Tazne Van Wyks family in Clare Street, Connaught Estate, the last place she was seen alive.

On Thursday 20 February, Tazne’s body was found in a stormwater pipe, after police were led to the scene by Moyhdine Pangarker. Pangarker was arrested on Monday 17 February in Cradock in the Eastern Cape.

Pangarker appeared in Goodwood Magistrate’s court on Friday 21 February. Crowds stormed the court and ripped off the palisade fencing of the courts boundary fencing.
