A number of hospitals in Indonesia have implemented a new policy of the use of face protective equipment for newborn babies in a bid to prevent coronavirus infection.

Footage from the BMC Hospital in Padang City in West Sumatra province on Monday (April 20) shows a newborn being immediately fitted with a face shield.

Dr. Afdal, who handles a number of newborns, said the hospital was trying to be preventive, so they can be sure all newborn babies are healthy.

"We do not know whether the child's parents or the environment are exposed to COVID-19 or not. So this is our step to protect the baby from the spread of the virus," Afdal said.

A number of hospitals in Indonesia implement a new policy in the form of the use of face protective equipment for babies who are being treated and newly born. This was done to prevent coronavirus infection.

The use of face protective equipment is a preventive measure to prevent transmission of the virus to infants in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic as it is today.

Dr. Afdal, who handles a number of newborns, said the hospital was trying to be preventive, even though mothers who gave birth here both normally and surgery were already discreaning, so we can be sure all newborn babies are healthy without viruses.

What's more, the hospital has implemented a number of policies to prevent Covid-19 transmission, such as ensuring the health condition of patients by screaning.

"However, we do not know whether the child's parents or the environment are exposed to Covid-19 or not. So this is our step to protect the baby from the spread of the virus," Afdal said.
