Dog in the Philippines is helping coronavirus fight by joining nightly curfew patrols
A dog in the Philippines is helping to fight the spread of coronavirus in the country by patrolling communities in lockdown.
The Aspin dog named Chi-Chi even gets her own village patrol ID which certifies that she is part of the frontliners that help implement the coronavirus quarantine guidelines in Manila City.
Chi-Chi has been a regular in the district town hall after she started following night patrols with village officers.
Her sought-after pass allows her to go outside after curfew and ensure people are following the rules impose to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council officer Jake Ramos said: "She just jumped up and went with us during one of our night patrols. She's been helping us guard the communities even before the lockdown."
Jake said that the hardworking dog has helped them a lot in terms of implementing the quarantine measures.
He said: "She is very protective. She knows when someone is not from our place and would bark at them."
Chi-Chi was originally a stray but local officials set up a small house for her right outside of the town hall where she has been living for a year and a half now.
The Philippines, where there have so far been 7,958 cases recorded and 530 deaths, has implemented strict lockdown measures to delay the spread of the coronavirus covid-19.
Travel bans are in place around the country preventing people from moving to different areas and residents are under curfews to keep them inside.
