Indian Railways has begun to resume train services on Tuesday (May 12), nearly two months after services were stopped due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The company issued a number of specific guidelines asking passengers to carry their own food, linen, and wear protective face masks.

Indian Railways has begun the restoration of passenger train services today. nearly two months after services were stopped due to the nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Initially, 15 pairs of trains running with passengers on board.with the departure of these trains, restoration of passenger train services have started in a graded manner. Face masks are mandatory and thermal screening is being done ahead of departure. Only passengers with confirmed tickets are being allowed to enter the Railway station. Only asymptomatic passengers are being allowed to board the train.

Even though the first train on Tuesday was flagged off from the Capital at 4 pm, passengers began gathering outside the station early in the morning, compelled by the lack of public transport.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India now is 74,281, with 47,480 active cases and 24,385 cured/discharged patients. As many as 2415 deaths have been reported.
