To a naturalist, bird calls are an important part of every soundscape. But some of the most commonly heard calls are made by furtive birds that are hard to spot.
Staying in the Hotel Shri Ganesh in Mount Abu, #Rajasthan, our balcony looked directly into a fruiting tree and we kept hearing a characteristic call. Our friendly host said it was a green bird, but the only one we could see was a #RoseringedParakeet Psittacula krameri, feeding in the canopy. I know the call of that species from the feral flocks now resident in London parks, and so knew that was not the caller in question. I then saw a #BrownheadedBarbet Megalaima zeylanica, in the canopy - nice but not calling... and finally YES - caught one on camera in the act of calling. Not the clearest shot but very satisfying to identify the author of key part of the soundscape of Mount Abu, which forms the 78th #BrightenYourDay video to connect those in #Covid19 #lockdown to #nature.
