Heartwarming moment family stranded by floods shout with delight when neighbours send them food in a pulley
This is the heartwarming moment residents trapped in their homes shared their food with neighbours by using a makeshift pulley connected between balconies.
Floodwaters rose rapidly in Marikina City, the Philippines, during the onslaught of Typhoon Vamco on November 12 after heavy rain caused a river to overflow.
Many residents were sleeping at the time before being woken up by the deluge and rushing to the second floods or their homes or onto roofs.
Many families were left without vital supplies to last them through the flood, who took several days to subside.
However, footage shows how one kind resident, PJ Samar, helped out their neighbours by placing canned goods and other supplies inside a bucket and used a clothesline as a makeshift pulley.
The bucket was slid down the clothesline that passes between houses but it was stalled mid-way so a man from the other building braved the flood to reach for it instead.
Their neighbours, who haven't eaten after hours of being trapped, shouted in delight when they finally held the bucket with food.
They were heard shouting in the video repeatedly: "It's eating time! It's eating time!"
PJ said: "We should help each other during the time of calamity. We have extra food so we want to share it with others. I'm sure they would have done the same if we were in their situation."
The floodwater has subsided in Manila but rescue teams are still battling to reach stranded residents further north in Cagayan province, which suffered severe floods.
As of Monday, typhoon Vamco - or Ulysses as it is known locally - had killed at least 63 people in the Philippines with dozens more missing.
The storm has now moved eastwards and hit central Vietnam, where it made landfall on Sunday.
