A group of elephants that were stranded inside a deep swampy pond were rescued with the help of excavators in northeastern India's Assam on November 25. The incident took place in Lakhipur of Goalpara.

Visuals of the rescue operation show three elephants stranded in a murky pond full of mud. They can be seen struggling to climb out of the mud, but are unable to do so because of the depth of the pit and their heavy mass.

Later, two excavators can be seen digging out walls of the trough in order to make a gentle slope for the elephants to climb out of.

The deep pit was dug out to be used by the local electricity department, which unfortunately turned into a trench of distress for the huge animals.

All three jumbos were safely rescued in the operation and all of them later walked back into the wild without causing any harm to humans.
