Disabled man has built his own customised trailer to drive entirely with his hands while lying down
A disabled man built a customised trailer that he can drive entirely by hand while lying down.
Amnuay Silpee, 54, has been using his handmade vehicle with manual transmission for five years.
Despite his physical inabilities, he was able to live a nomadic way of life moving around Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand.
The creative man used to part-time as a construction worker until he lost both his legs in an accident in 2015.
At first, he was devastated and felt hopeless about his condition, until he had the idea of building the RV to pursue his dreams of becoming a traveller.
He bought the old vehicle for 15,000 Baht and modified the gears to suit his current physical state.
Since he can't use his feet to drive, he customised the vehicle so that the pedals can be controlled by his hands.
The driver's seat is also lined with cushions so he can lie flat for hours driving the unique vehicle.
He does everything in his new mobile home - sleeping, cooking, eating, and has a small space for a toilet.
A gas station owner, who was inspired by his dedication, donates 2,000 Baht worth of petrol to Amnuay so he could continue with his journey.
Amnuay said he now hopes to help other disabled people build their own vehicles so it would be easier for them to travel.
He said: "It is not impossible to travel if you are disabled. Just because you can't walk, doesn't mean you will be stuck in one place forever. I want to help other people who are like me to do that."
