Clashes broke out again between demonstrators and police in the Albanian capital on Friday (December 11), the third day of unrest over the fatal shooting of a many by police enforcing a COVID-19 curfew.

Hundreds joined the protest in front of the main government building in Tirana.

Some threw stones and fireworks at police guarding the building.

Officers responded with tear gas and water cannon.

The protest was dispersed across the city beginning from the Ministry of Interior, crossing into the capital’s main boulevard to the Blloku area, while rioters set fire to garbage bins and throwing rocks and firecrackers to police forces dispatched at various locations.

Amid calls for the resignation of general chief of police, Ardi Veliu, protesters marched through the boulevard and arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office around 6 PM, where they were met by increased police presence.
Rising tensions were noted since the early moments of today’s protest as police forces used water cannons and tear gas in order to impede the crowd from gathering in front of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Protesters shifted towards the Blloku district where once again they were met by police officers who continuously pressured demonstrators from gathering into large groups. The protest lasted for 3 hours.
