Swathes of beachgoers were dispersed by police on a beach in the coastal town of Pinamar, Argentina, on January 4.

Footage shows hundreds of people being dispersed by the Tactical Unit of Immediate Operations (UTOI), an elite group of the Buenos Aires police.

Argentina recorded 13,790 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the national count to 1,662,730, the health ministry said.

Governor Axel Kicillof warned that further restrictions will be implemented if coronavirus cases continue to grow.

Yesterday afternoon, in the south of Pinamar, on the Atlantic coast of Argentina, the Tactical Unit of Immediate Operations (UTOI), an elite group of the Buenos Aires police, had to descend to the beach to disperse the young people who there they were.

In the video you can see a crowd gathered, drinking and dancing near the water. When the police officers appeared with their off-road vehicles, there were runs, but the episode did not leave any injured or detained, according to sources from the Pinamar municipality.

Although this place is usually the one most chosen by young people to relax on the beach, this year the image is worrying due to the increase in cases of coronavirus.

In Argentina, in the last 72 hours, 20,905 new cases of the virus were registered, a figure that set off the alarms of the authorities. The large number of tourists in the Argentine seaside cities makes the situation require special attention.

The same president, Alberto Fernández, pointed out that they would use the security forces to prevent people from gathering in the streets and on the beaches: "If we see that the situation does not ease, we will see how the security forces and others begin to act. in the streets to dissipate the people and to prevent agglomerations ", assured the President in dialogue with Radio 10.

From the Gov´t of the province of Buenos Aires, they indicated that they would impose restrictions if the cases continue to grow. One of them could be the closure of the premises from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., something that caused discomfort in merchants who throughout the year waited for the summer months to be able to increase their profits.

"Here we all get together young kids, we bring the ice cream parlors and we get to have something quiet. Many times there is music, before the parador would play it and other times people bring their speakers. Everything is usually in order, the issue is that with the coronavirus gets into trouble with the police just for being in a group, which is normal for us", says Esteban López, 18, who is from Cordoba and came on vacation with five friends.
