A 27-year-old ship captain who had recently become a father for the first time was one of 62 people aboard the Indonesian passenger plane believed to have crashed into the sea shortly after take-off from Jakarta, his family have said.

The Sriwijaya Air plane disappeared from radars a few minutes into its journey to Pontianak in West Kalimantan province.

Video filmed on Saturday (January 9) shows relatives of Angga Fernanda Afriyon at the family home. Mother Afrida said her son had called him to tell her he was going to Pontianak for a job.

"Before leaving for Pontianak, Angga accompanied his wife [to Jakarta] to give birth to their first child at a hospital. Angga could only see their first child for a week and had to go to Pontianak for an assignment."

Based on a passenger list seen by Newsflare's filmer, Angga Fernanda Afriyon was aboard the plane.
