Heartbreaking moment fire destroyed 141-year-old wooden train station in Ohio
This was the heartbreaking moment a 141-year-old train depot was burned down by an alleged arsonist in Dayton, Ohio.
The blaze destroyed the wooden structure on June 17 last year. Devastated locals vowed to rebuild the historic building.
Linda Clements, a member of the board of directors for the Historical Society of Dayton Valley, told local media: ‘That’s my baby and it’s gone.’
Central Lyon County Fire Protection District Chief Rich Harvey said the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the structure within minutes.
The depot was originally built in Mound House in 1879 and moved to Dayton in 1881. The federal government built U.S. 50 in the 1950s and the train station was moved to its present location.
Linda added: ‘I’ve got pictures of every square inch of that depot. We’re going to rebuild. It won’t be as good. It won’t be the same. But it will be my baby.’
