Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are the world’s fastest land mammal and adults are able to run at 80 to 128 kilometres per hour (50-80 mph). They are unusual cats with non-retractable claws, and unlike Leopards and Lions, are active by day. This adult Cheetah was eating a Warthog piglet (Phacochoerus africanus) next to a fallen log on the Gomondwane Loop in Kruger Park while Helmeted Guineafowls (Numida meleagris) made their harsh alarm calls from a safe distance. The Cheetah was disturbed by an approaching vehicle – it stopped eating and sat up, alert.
