A police officer is being investigated after harrowing footage showed him punching a man in the face as he lay on the ground in handcuffs.

The video shows the male cop restraining a bearded man who was lying on his back in a doorway.

The man, who had a pony-tail and was wearing a red jacket, was handcuffed by the officer who then struck him in the face.

The incident is said to have happened when West Midlands Police attended a property in Wolverhampton on Wednesday (February 17).

West Midlands Police said: "We were called to an address in East Croft Road, Wolverhampton, just after 7pm on 16 February to reports of a domestic incident where damage was being caused to property inside an address.
