Thai driver loses control and crashes into market stalls
Five people were injured after an impatient driver lost control when he hit the accelerator instead of the brakes in his automatic transmission car.
CCTV footage shows the white sedan slamming into riders after trying to avoid an oncoming car in the opposite lane in Saraburi province, Thailand on March 4.
The bungling driver clipped three riders on the way then rammed the tents at the flea market. No one was reported seriously hurt but five people were injured including two males and three females.
Six motorcycles, two cars and a bus were damaged including several gallons of liquid for sale that were knocked over to the ground.
Opas, 55, the driver, was unhurt and taken by the police to the station where he said that he did not intend for the incident to happen.
He said: ‘I was confused. I normally drive with a manual transmission car but I panicked and could not control the vehicle.’
Police investigations showed that the frantic driver mistakenly placed his foot on the gas pedal instead of the brakes which accelerated the car causing the crash.
Police found no traces of alcohol in the man’s system but they said they will examine him for other substances.
The officer, Captain Anna Chan, said: ‘The driver was not under the influence of alcohol that time but we will check him for other substances. He will be charged with reckless driving for now.’
