Mauritian Tomb Bats mating and squeaking on a tree trunk in daylight
Mauritian Tomb Bats (Taphozous mauritianus) are found in Sub-Sharan Africa and Madagascar in rain forests, dry forests and grasslands. Despite their name, they are not restricted to tombs, and are often seen in small groups of three to five clinging to walls and tree trunks in places with overhead shelter. Mauritian Tomb Bats have good eyesight as well as echolocation in the dark to locate and catch flying insects. This pair of Tomb Bats were mating while clinging to a tree trunk. Their high-pitched squeaks can just be heard if you listen carefully.
