Mount Sinabung in Indonesia erupted again on Sunday night (June 6), sending volcanic ash and sand raining down on surrounding villages.

This footage from a live broadcast on Instagram shows villagers in the Karo Regency of North Sumatra taking shelter as the volcanic material begins to clatter against their roofs.

According to the filmer, locals were awoken around midnight by the sound of small rocks hitting their homes.

Eruptions from Mount Sinabung have claimed the lives of at least 23 people since 2014.

Live broadcast footage by @zonakalakkaro.id on Instagram after the eruption in the Kutarayat, Karo district, North Sumatra province, show, local within 5 kilometers of Mount Sinabung panicked as they heard the roofs being rained on by the volcanic sand.

That rain of sand was getting heavier for about 10 minutes.

@zonakalakkaro.id admin, said, residents who had slept in the midnight were immediately awakened because rocks measuring up to about 1.5 - 2 cm hit their house roof.

Previously, they felt the tremors of the earthquake, heard a rumbling sound from Sinabung, then saw several lightning strikes.
