Artists have decorated their village in eastern India with detailed murals to attract tourists.

The stunning artwork in Raghurajpur is based on the country's mythology that depicts ancient stories.

With their livelihoods affected by COVID-19, the artisans decided to paint vibrant murals across the village in an attempt to revive local tourism.

The artists were funded by local organisations to help them begin painting once again.

Artists painted murals to welcome tourists in their heritage village in eastern India's Odisha on June 14. The incident took place in Raghurajpur of Puri district.

Visuals feature the artisans painting the exterior walls of their houses with mythological themes that depict ancient stories to the tourists visiting the heritage crafts village. The majestic art form is a treat for the eyes as several bright colors pop out of the surfaces while the onlookers nearby behold the spectacle.

With the hope to greet tourists after the Covid-19 pandemic, around 150 families from the heritage village, Raghurajpur, who are famous for their traditional Pattachitra painting have been painting their own houses with mythical and symbolic themes.

The livelihood of these craftsmen was affected due to Covid-19 as tourists stopped visiting their village, resulting in their loss as their products and paintings remained unsold.

However, the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi helped these 150 artisans with the help of Odisha Mining Corporation by providing them Rs. 10,000 (USD 136) each as remuneration to begin painting murals on their 50 square feet wall. In this way, when the tourism sector revives, the people will get a visual treat by observing the traditional art form.
