A brave rescuer was lowered down into a 100-feet-deep well in Maharashtra, western India, to retrieve a deadly cobra.

A farmer alerted the Wildlife Rescue Society (WRS) after finding a cobra stranded at the bottom of the deep pit.

Hrishikesh Jadhav was lowered down into the well where he attempted to lure the venomous snake into a bag.

After an hour Jadhav managed to secure the serpent and he was hauled to the surface by locals.

Akash Jadhav of the WRS, said: "The well was dangerous as it was not walled properly. I am relieved that we could complete the rescue work without any incidents.”

The cobra was later released in a safe place.

A cobra fell into a 100-feet deep well at a village near Ahmednagar in western India on August 20.

On getting a call from the farmer, who owned the well, Akash Jadhav and team from, Wildlife Rescue Society, went to the village. Team member Hrishikesh Jadhav climbed down the well with the help of a harness and tried to rescue the cobra.

It was an ordeal to catch the snake, which kept swimming away from him, while staying suspended mid air. After nearly an hour’s persistent effort Hrishikesh caught the snake and put it in a bag. The cobra was pulled up and later released in a nearby first.

Akash said: “The well was dangerous as it was not walled properly. I am relieved that we could complete the rescue work without any incident.”
