US veterinarians remove a HUGE pulsating parasite from a poorly kitten's neck
Watch the moment hero veterinarians remove a HUGE pulsating parasite from a poorly kitten's neck.
Moose, an 8-week-old kitten, was brought to Noah’s Ark Animal clinic in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky by a good samaritan after showing clear signs that he was unwell.
The poor kitty had a huge cuterebra larvae in his neck that was infected and swollen.
Cats often become unwitting hosts to the cuterebra parasite when hunting rodents.
Doctor Matt McGlasson and his team leapt into action to remove the parasite from the kitten placing him under anaesthetic and beginning the procedure to extract the huge bug.
The shocking footage shows the massive pulsating creature that is almost as big as the kitten's head being pulled from the poor thing's neck.
In a happy ending to the whole ordeal Moose is filmed in the arms of Doctor McGlasson happily meowing and was adopted by one of his team members.
Matt said:
“Moose was approximately 8 weeks old when a Good Samaritan brought him into our office. He is a male domestic medium hair tabby”
“He had a large cuterebra larvae in his neck that was infected and swollen”
“The procedure involves just a local anaesthetic and grabbing a hold of the giant larvae and gently extracting it. We then flushed the round and he was started in antibiotics and medicine for pain”
“Moose is doing great! Made a full recovery and one of my staff adopted him. He is now very spoiled and happy”
“This is something that can happen to cats that spend time outside”
