Moment THOUSANDS of midges swarm together on Scottish roadside in front of the sunset
A warm and wet end to summer has caused a sudden surge of midges in the Highlands - with millions spotted swarming one holidaymaker.
Gregor Helm, 43, was walking across the Scottish Highlands before camping at Loch Glascarnoch last Friday [27] when a swarm of midges invaded his sunset view.
Factory worker Gregor, who lives in Dunfermline, Fife, said: "Myself and a friend had driven the four hours it takes to get to Loch Glascarnoch from our homes in Dunfermline to go hillwalking over the weekend in the Fannich range of hills nearby.
"We climbed one munro on the Friday afternoon and returned to set up camp for the night near the car parked a bit away from the roadside.
"There was no wind around so perfect for midges and they just grew and grew in numbers.
"There was no escaping them outside so we headed for the car and that is where they were in their thousands at the rear of the car.
"We sat it out for a couple of hours and they seemed to disperse a little bit but it was still bad.
"That was the worst swarm of midges I had ever seen - the video doesn't do it justice as to how bad it actually was!"
