Staff celebrated as a water salute welcomed SAA FLIGHT 317 to Cape Town shortly after ten - fifteen today.

South African Airlines took to the skies again after 544 days of being grounded. because of financial constraints and allegations of corruption.

Previously the national carrier boasted a 46 craft fleet, this has been trimmed down to a mere 6 aircraft. SAA Interim Chief Commercial Officer, Simon Newton - Smith expressed his gratitude at the achievement and alluded to the challenges in resurrecting an airline during a pandemic.

Forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan was one of the passengers on the maiden flight.
