The eastern Vietnamese province of Phu Yen was hit by severe flash floods today (December 1) with many homes and businesses affected.

Footage showed shops under several feet of water in the centre of the city of Tuy Hoa.

Thousands have been evacuated from their homes.

Locals said they were taken by surprise by the flooding as the area had never been affected before.

According to the store owner, her shop sells eyeglasses and the area has never been flooded. Everyone was surprised when the flood water flooded and flooded around the city. Entire stores were flooded. Everywhere is surrounded by floodwater.
The floodwater rose, causing the city to sink into the sea. The whole city had to relocate more than 2,000 households with more than 7,000 people to a safe place.
