An army of black worms invaded dozens of homes in central Thailand.

Clumps of bugs crawled on the fences and walls of villagers’ houses in Samut Prakan province on December 10. Some of the worms had fallen and covered the pavement with their wriggling bodies.

Concerned residents called local officials to help get rid of the pests, which are believed to have blown in from a forest close to the settlement.

Village chief Sorasak Srirama and his team set out to spray insecticide to kill the tiny intruders, which have reached even the eaves of the houses.

Siriporn Kasetrungruang, a 44-year-old resident of the village, said: ‘My home was attacked by a lot of worms, but the neighbour’s house had it worse because it was next to the forest.

‘I don’t know what kind of worm it was. It was small, black, and thin, and it would spin a web from the ceiling while coming down.’

Village officers are now coordinating with the landowner of the forest to cut down the tall trees suspected to be the natural habitat of the black worms. Local agencies are conducting pest control in the meantime.
