This is the moment a stray dog had a brush with death - after tripping on a green snake that was crossing a road.

Sayamon Chanasongkram and her daughter were walking home in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand, on February 4 when they encountered the thin serpent that emerged from the roadside.

Terrified Sayamon asked her daughter to scare the snake away, but before they could do anything, a stray dog ran and trampled the reptile. The mutt then leapt into the air to avoid being bitten by the mildly venomous but unusually long tree snake.

She said: 'The snake curled up when the dog ran over it. I think the dog didn't see the snake.'

Neither animal was seriously hurt from the incident, and the reptile eventually slipped away into the undergrowth.
