Brave residents in Mariupol, south-east Ukraine, are attempting to carry on with their lives despite the city being shelled by Russia.

Footage from March 23 shows large sections of buildings torn to pieces by four weeks of Russian bombardment.

One local on Kuprina Street pointed towards a building and said "Everything is broken at all, there, the fifth floor is broken further. So that's the way things are. Let them think for themselves. We are mortal people, but I hesitated to sit in the cellar."

When asked why he hasn't left the city, he said: "I can't leave my parents. How will I leave my parents? And that's it, that's what I'm saying, goodbye, that's it."

According to Ukrainian reports, 15,000 civilians have been forcibly deported from Mariupol to Russia.
