Exclusive footage has emerged of the moments after Ukraine's second city Kharkiv was hit by shelling on Thursday 26 May.

Video shows smoke pouring from the wreckage of a van burning in the street as medics tend to injured men in army fatigues and the sound of explosions rings out. Meanwhile, people in civilian clothing, including what appear to be journalists wearing helmets, force their way into a building, possibly for shelter.

A five-month-old baby and his father died in Thursday's shelling of Kharkiv. Eight other also died, the regional governor said. The child's mother was also badly hurt, according to the head of the Ukrainian National Police, Igor Klimenko.

Pictures of the apartment building where the baby and father died show a badly damaged structure with blood on the floor and wall.

Local doctor Evgeny Maruchok said eight corpses were brought in, all killed by shrapnel.

"Yesterday eight bodies of the dead were sent to us. At this moment the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) is investigating. Examinations of the bodies are being carried out to determine the causes of death and extract parts of the shells that were in the victims," he said. The body of the dead baby was among the victims being investigated.

The city was heavily attacked in the early days of the war but Russian forces were pushed out of the city and life was starting to return to normal when Thursday's attack happened.

Now there are fears it could be targeted again as Russian forces accelerate offensives in other parts of eastern Ukraine.
