This exclusive footage from the ground shows the terrible aftermaths of a raging fire at Barabashovo market in the city of Kharkiv after it was hit by Russian shelling on Friday (March 18).

The shopping mall is one of the largest in eastern Europe, where close to 15,000 businesses operate, according to Ukrainian officials who described the attack as 'spiteful'.

Zoya one of the owners of a now destroyed shop shares her sadness: "Everything burned down, we were left without money, before the new year, we had bought all our goods on credit."

The fire claimed the life of at least 5 civilians and one of the firefighters who were trying to rescue the market from the blaze. 31-year-old Alexander Podolsky was hit in the head by rocket fragments during Russian shelling.

His friend Andrey recalls:
"We went to put out the fire, everything was fine, then the second time the shelling of Russian rockets began, it was very scary. We all fell to the ground, but our friend died."
