A hero pet dog bravely fought off a snake that was trying to slither into his family's home.

The brown pooch was greeting his owners who had just pulled up on the driveway in front of their home in Kamphaeng Phet province, Thailand on July 2.

However, as the family entered their home, the protective dog noticed a serpent slithering across the pavement and chased after it.

CCTV footage shows the brave pet pouncing on the snake and pulling it out of the house to throw into the road.

Pet owner Jantana Iamam said: ‘We didn't know that there was a snake if our dog didn't see it. We are very grateful for our pooch.'

The mother and her three daughters were seen getting out of the car and into their house minutes before the snake showed up and their pooch fought it across the garage

Workers heard the commotion and ran after the dog to check before finding out about the snake.

The rat snake did not survive and was later buried into the family's backyard. No one else was hurt in the incident aside from the snake.
