This is the dramatic moment a resident grappled with a huge python after discovering it strangling his pet cat.

The homeowner was out with the feline for their routine walk around his house when the snake suddenly attacked the hapless tabby in Samut Prakan, Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the distressed cat letting out a loud cry as the serpent coils tightly around it on February 6.

Alerted by the noise, the man rushed in the front yard and found the predator wrapped around his pet.

He can be seen heroically intervening with his bare hands, unbothered by the risk of being bitten.

The brave local grabbed the snake by the tail and repeatedly pounded, thrashed, and flung it against the ground.

The terrified cat bolted back into the house, where the man's partner quickly slammed the door shut.

The python was then hurled onto the road and can be seen slithering away.

The pet owner said: 'My cat was shaken and hid under the sofa. We tried to coax him out, but he was terrified. When we finally managed, we noticed blood around his mouth. It turned out that he had bitten the snake during the fight.'

His girlfriend, who is a veterinarian, reportedly took the cat to her clinic for a check-up.

Local media reported that the feline did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Pythons are non-venomous constrictors known for ambushing their prey and wrapping around it to suffocate it.

These snakes wander into residential areas in search of food, especially during hot seasons when their natural habitats are disturbed.
