Beautiful orange candle wax sculptures were paraded through the streets during a festival in northeast Thailand.

The intricate figures were sent by temples from different districts in Nakhon Ratchasima province in celebration of the Khao Phansa festival on July 14.

Tourists and locals crowded the city centre to pose for photos next to the elaborate wax carvings depicting the stories of Buddha.

The candle parade is a yearly tradition in Nakhon Ratchasima, but was cancelled for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was resumed this year after authorities eased pandemic restrictions in Thailand.

The procession is part of the Khao Phansa festival, which marks the first day of 'Buddhist Lent' when monks take a three-month retreat to study and meditate.
