Indonesian fashionistas are taking their creativity literally to the streets with impromptu catwalk shows on the roads of Jakarta's Sudirman Central Business District.

The popular recent trend has been dubbed 'Citayam Fashion Week' and widely compared to Tokyo's Harajuku district, where the city's youth have historically gathered to dress up and show off their creativity on weekends.

The unofficial gatherings were originally driven by young people coming in from areas on the outskirts of the Indonesian capital, including Depok, Bojong Gede, and Citayam.

It has also become popular with models and artists in the city itself.

Video shot on Thursday 21 July showed one zebra crossing that has become a popular place to strut one's stuff.

One model at the unofficial event, 28-year-old Tamara Dai, says young people today are very creative in their use of open spaces in the crowded capital.
