A Honduran drug trafficker known as the 'Lord of the Skies' has been extradited to Texas for allegedly smuggling cocaine into the U.S.

Jose Luis Oliva Meza was handed over to American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers at the Hernan Acosta Mejia air base in Tegucigalpa at around 6:15 am local time on Thursday, August 18.

More than 10 agents escorted the handcuffed suspect to the aircraft, which left for the U.S. two hours later.

Oliva Meza is also reportedly a Nicaraguan citizen who goes by the name Raduan Zamora.

He is charged with allegedly producing and distributing cocaine, which he is said to have smuggled into the U.S. via speed boats, submarines, fishing vessels, and airplanes.

Before his extradition, Oliva Meza was captured and detained last May 15 in the Atlantida Department in Honduras's north Caribbean shore.
