Mourners dressed as 1800s cowboys for a funeral in rural Thailand.

Friends of Jakkit Jitkratok gathered for the Western-themed ceremony on September 12 after he passed away aged 52 in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Men wore white shirts and Stetsons like they were in a gold rush frontier town as they paid tribute to the John Wayne superfan.

It was an unusual send-off in the country where most Buddhist funerals are sombre affairs with monks and superstitious rituals.

Instead, there were a country and western band singing hits while guests did line-dancing.

Friends said more than 100 people showed up to pay their respects to Jakkit, who had been the head of a Cowboy fan group in the region.
