Dwayne Gonsalves captured the moment a lion charged at a hotel balcony in South Africa causing guests to run back inside
A testosterone-filled lion sent hotel guests fleeing after he CHARGED at their balcony because they had interrupted him mating nearby.
Dwayne Gonsalves was leading a tour through the Welgevonden Game Reserve, South Africa, at the beginning of February when he came across two mating lions.
Incredible footage from the 30-year-old shows the preening predator start jogging towards the terrace before picking up speed as it approached an open jeep.
As Dwayne can be heard saying 'watch out boys' the rampaging lion let out a mighty roar and sent the spooked guests scrambling up the steps and to safety.
Dwayne said: "If you never have experienced anything like this or you are a first-time safari goer, there would’ve been fear and panic hence why the guests made a run to a higher spot.
"But the best advice and rule of thumb is to never run. You should try to stand still and stand your ground.
"For thousands of years we, the upright human, have dominated these parts amongst wild animals. Afterwards there was a real rush of adrenaline and feeling alive.
"I had a laugh at the panic going on, on the deck, but knew that the lion didn’t mean any harm and was just playing in sense by setting dominance.
"He wouldn’t have proceeded with an attack they rarely do. It’s mostly intimidation.
"He charged because there was a female close by and they were busy mating, so all the movement agitated him a bit and made him charge to set dominance and intimidation.
"Testosterone is in excess during these times. We have a rule of thumb not to stand up or break the outline of the jeeps and this happened here, hence why he charged.
"He ended up about five metres from the vehicle and only seven from the deck.
"I saw that he was agitated and told the guests that he might do this. As we were 50 metres away, we weren’t any threat as we were seated in the vehicle."
