This is the dramatic moment tourists stranded on a cliff during flash floods were rescued in Thailand.

The group of four - three Thai nationals and a foreigner - had reportedly gone hiking on the Phali cliff in Kalasin province, but were trapped by the surging waters on September 24.

Rescuers arrived after being notified of the incident and found the tourists stranded on a boulder surrounded by the rapidly rising floods. The officers tossed down a rope to pull them up to safety.

Footage shows the group clambering up a muddy slope while the waters churned violently below them.

They said there were originally six of them who had gone on the trip. As they were taking a stroll, the floods came gushing towards them trapping four amid the torrents. The other two reportedly hurried back to the village to call for help.

Village elder Prayat Chanthaban said tourists were discouraged from hiking at Phali cliff during the rainy season.

He said: 'But if they insist on coming, please make sure to notify authorities so they can stand by in case of accidents.'

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts from May or June until November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

This year, meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.

Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.
