The seeds from the fruits (or gumnuts) of the Marri (Corymbia calophylla) are a preferred food of the south-western Australian naso race of the Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo. Six adult Cockatoos were feeding, preening and calling in Marri trees near the edge of the Serpentine River. This male Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo climbed to locate a gumnut, then proceeded to shred it with his strong black beak.
